Welcome to StringThing!

Welcome to Durham StringThing.
logoWho: We’re a collaborative group of string-lovin’ fiber enthusiasts in Durham, NC. Members have ranged from ages 18 to 81, BGLT friendly, all genders. That includes straight guys, too.

What: StringThing began in 2007. (You can ask Rebecca the story of StringThing’s origins, which involves a creepy internet stalker and a Nigerian Bank Scam, but which - obviously - has a very happy ending.) Since then it’s been described by members as an oasis, an inspiration, and even a family.

We knit, crochet, felt, spin, occasionally entertain tatting and needlework notions… anything with string! We’ve even been known to break out into fits of macrame. We enjoy doing our own projects in good company, and we do some group projects, too. Past projects are described in the Update section: check out the community service projects, holiday swaps and games, and our very own pattern book.

When: We meet on Sundays at 10 am.

Where: We alternate weeks, hosting at home and meeting at Saladelia. We also go on lots of field trips, hang out for movie nights, bar nights, and attend various posh cultural events. Check the calendar page !

Our home-away-from-home online: You can find us on Ravelry (at all sorts of dreadful hours).

“Hey! Nix the Pix!” I hate it when people take my picture without asking me first, and even more when they post a picture of me I don’t like.  If there’s a picture of you on this website and you don’t like it, just email me and I’ll take it down pronto.

Hey - meet our neighbor!
